Course Overview

Brillouin microscopy is an emerging optical imaging technique for all-optical probing of mechanical properties in biological settings. Brillouin microscopy offers the ability to measure the mechanical properties of living biological systems, such as cells and organisms, noninvasively and contactless at high spatial resolution. This workshop aims at tutoring scientists on Brillouin microscopy and other optoacoustic tools used for biomedical research, with a special focus on stimulated Brillouin scattering (SBS) microscopy.

Audience

This workshop is aimed at researchers and instrument developers who work in the field of Bio-Brillouin scattering spectroscopy and imaging and who wish to acquire more knowledge and hands-on training on this technology, with a special focus on SBS microscopy.

Modules/Resources
  • Tutorials on Brillouin microscopy and other optoacoustic techniques
  • Hands-on training on experimental setups of VIPA-based/SBS microscopy

Learning Outcomes

You will gain an overview of Brillouin microscopy and other optoacoustic techniques, such as optoacoustic tomography. You will gain an insight in their applications and pitfalls as well as recommendations from experts. You will meet top industrial actors that offer state-of-the-art solutions. After this course you should be able to assess the potential of these techniques and apply them to your own research.

Application

Apply [not requesting financial support/general application]

Apply [requesting financial support/COST BioBrillouin Members]

The deadline for submissions is January 15, 2020

Subject to availability applications may be considered after this date. The course is limited to 20 participants.

Two types of applications will be considered for the trainings school. Those that request financial support and those that do not…

Applications requesting financial support

10 selected eligible and selected participants affiliated with the COST BioBrillouin Action will receive financial support to attend the course. (If you are not yet a member of the BioBrillouin Action you can apply to join here). The stipend may be used to cover travel costs and accommodation and meals not included in the Training School. For these selected participants the fee for the Training School as well Training School lunches and the gala dinner will be waivered.  For selection purposes, please note that your application will not be considered without a letter of motivation. It should include:

  • Your relevant skills, experience and qualifications showing why you would be suitable for the course.
  • Explanation of why you would like to attend, including what you can contribute and how you think you will benefit from the course.

Motivation letter length: The maximum limit of 2000 characters (ca. 200 words) refers to manually typed text (spaces included).

Free field text length: The maximum characters for your answers in the free field text boxes is 255 (spaces included).

Letters of motivation should be submitted via the text-box in the application page.

Applications should be made via this link.

Applications not requesting financial support

The following registration fee applies:

Academia 200 Euro

Registration fees include admission, course materials, meals and coffee breaks. Participants are expected to book and pay their own accommodation and travel expenses.

NO visa support letters will be issued until payment of the registration fee is confirmed.

Confirmation and Payment: The registration fee should be paid only after your application has been accepted to the course.

These applications should be made via this link.
